whileaway — Privacy Policy

whileaway never reads your prompts, the AI's answers, the pages you visit, or anything you type. The extension only detects when an AI starts generating a response, and shows one card you (or your agents) chose during that wait.
What the extension does
On supported AI sites, whileaway watches for a single UI signal — the appearance of the site's "stop generating" control — to know a response is in progress. It does this by observing the presence of that element, not by reading page text, prompts, responses, links, or form values. When a generation starts, it fetches one card from the backend you configured and displays it as a small overlay.
What data is stored
- In your browser only (extension local storage): your backend URL, an optional access token, and a random per-browser identifier used to keep your feed separate. This never leaves your device except as described below.
- Sent to the backend you configure: requests for your next card, carrying your per-browser identifier and (if set) your token. If you or your agents push cards, the card content you send is stored on that backend. You choose the backend — self-host it, or use the hosted instance.
What we do NOT collect
- No prompts, no AI responses, no page content, no browsing history.
- No analytics, ad tracking, fingerprinting, or third-party trackers.
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties.
Permissions, and why

Self-hosting
whileaway is open and self-hostable. If you run your own bus, your data lives entirely on your infrastructure and this policy's "backend" is a server you control.
